RE: How tall is too tall?

rouleau,
All of the fivers we have looked at had power vents for high locations. You might want to check this.

RE: New 5ver: Cardinal, Montana, Bighorn,Jayco Designer

Good Point!
Most of the manufacturers have several lines that are similar but with quality differences.
For example:
In the generally known as the "Montana" line there is the Mountaineer, Montana, and Big Sky at the top. Be aware that the manufacturers change their "quality builds" regularly. It must be to keep us on our toes!
With Heartland, its the (which is their entry model?), Big Horn followed by the Landmark. Designer is Jayco's top "build quality" model.
You have to watch comparing entry level, mid level and top level builds. You sort of need to figure these out and try though, to really compare. It gets real complicated to compare apples to apples though. In many/most of these "build quality's" you will find the same/similar floor plans spanning the range.
Then you just have to sit there and bond with the rig...

RE: Firestone air bags

We have the Firestone's with the in-cab controls and air tanks in both of our trucks. Since they both do different jobs, they get used differently.
The bags in the Dodge with the Truck Camper gets the pressure changed in the different bags on the fly pretty often as the weight changes so much with the fuel usage, water usage (and location of that "water") and how much "stuff" I need, and the road conditions, (that's a biggie!), I can firm or soften the ride to make it better for me.
Hubby finds that with the fiver the ride does not change so much, so for the most part tweaks them around to get things just right and they stay that way.
They are handy to raise and lower the hitch on either truck for hitching and un-hitching the boat more easily too.
We have had them on both rigs since new, and would not be with out the adjust-ability. They are on the MUST have side of the list for any future rigs.
They should never be linked.

RE: boondocking sites in SW MO or NW Ar.

Check out the National Forrest areas of both states, We were just at Blanchard Springs Caverns (the only show caves managed by the Forrest Service, and quite wonderful to tour) and there are several unimproved campgrounds that have no charge to use, we stayed at the campground at Blanchard Springs, for $5 per night, ($5 with the Age or Access pass, $10 without) and wonderful swimming holes. No hook-ups though. We were the only campers there, beautiful and quiet.
The Forest Service Headquarters and offices have folks that are also very helpful, check with the rangers at the parks.
Get a copy of the DeLorme Atlas and Gazetteer for MO and AR(available at most/many sporting goods stores) and get out and poke around.
I figure most folks don't want to share their special places on the 'net for thousands of others to know about. Hard to keep them secret then, eh?

RE: Equestrian Campgrounds PA

Play around with Google. My middle daughter lives outside Tunkhannock
( Northern PA in the Endless Mountains along Highway 6) and I believe when we have traveled around the area sightseeing I picked up info on equestrian trails and campgrounds in the forests in the area.

RE: Something sneaky on Reserve America

We received Backpacker and Business Aviation magazine.
How in the world did they know hubby is a pro pilot? Lucky guess or did the "system" Google his name?
Emailed Backpacker and received a nice reply that they will stop our mailings. We don't want to pay for mail forwarding. Trashed the BA prior to contacting them, I will do that when/if we receive another.

RE: Branson?

I would like to chime in here as we are also planning a October visit (1st ) time would like to see silver dollar city could care less about the shows what are some of the nice one near Silver dollar city would be helpful
When we are going up to SDC we stay at Indian Point COE Park.
Just water and electric hookups (no sewer) but it's nice, inexpensive, on the lakefront, more camping than parking, and you don't have to deal with traffic.
It's two miles south of SDC, making access a breeze, you will be traveling opposite of traffic even heading into town in the morning and returning in late afternoon.

RE: CapeFair C.O.E. near Branson, Mo

You ought to consider Indian Point COE park, it is just about 3 miles south of SDC so you don't have to deal with the traffic. That's where we stay, all the sights are open.
For updates on park conditions around the Ozarks due to the flooding, go to: COE Public Recreation Area Conditions and Update
Several of the sights we opened on Bull Shoals down the road from us at Lead Hill COE Park. The water temperature is a bath-like 90.1f.
Not particular refreshing, but beautiful, all the lakes appear to be running around the same temps.
Enjoy your visit to the Ozarks, we sure like it here, and home is Alaska!

RE: using a gooseneck adapter

Warranty is not really the issue, the OP states that the fiver is an 06 model year, so it will not have a warranty.
To me the important issue even with a new warranted rig is frame damage.
The vast majority of fiver's are not designed for the use of a goose neck hitch.

ODW- Outdoor World, TTN- Thousand Trails / NACO (the OP is possibly a member of Leisuretime also) lots of variances from a base Thousand Trails (TT -only) membership and PPA- Passport America.
The use of abbreviations can be annoying, but so can typing all those names and affiliations. ;)

RE: Who has the best Sat Internet service

Our choice is Hughes. And we are very glad we went with sat rather than an air card.
We don't want to spend the money on both and the cellular reception at our cottage is lousy. We have to go out to the road to talk. Had the same situation at several of the CG's we have spent time in.
One advantage with a system like Hughes rather than Wild Blue, is that you can take the Hughes system with you. Wild blue is not "portable". Don't know about the others mentioned.

RE: I hate my air bags and I KNEW better!!

I find that I adjust my bags differently almost every trip, as the camper weighs differently due to loading and the particular roads we are traveling.
Can we assume you don't have the in-cab control and just put a specific poundage of air in?
If you do that, how do you know HOW much air you need?
When folks post the poundage they use we are all different due to different factors. That is WHY they are adjustable!
I feel that if you have the bags without the ability to change the pressure, you are not using them they way they are designed to be used, making them less than correctly functional.
My truck rides best with the camper on, it rides like a truck though, not an auto whether loaded or empty.

RE: On board air UPDATE Pic added

I always (almost) have slightly different pressures in the two bags, and change on the fly to find the sweet spot (s) throughout the trip.
Thinking about it you will realize your loads are really never the same, nor are the roads you travel.
The gages and tank are really more than nice-to-haves, they are a valuable tool to make traveling as comfortable as possible.

RE: Out of State Fishing Licenses??

Pay attention to the cost differences.
We found that some states we are likely to return (or stay longer than a few days) during the license year had a better deal for us to just buy a one year non-resident license.
FL also requires a separate salt water and fresh water license.
The MO costs quoted are rather out-dated though. :)
Here is a page with links to all the different states fish and game web pages courtesy of US Fish & Wildlife Service

RE: Non resident fishing license 100% disabled vet

WTTCS, are you saying that as a non-resident you get free fishing rights in states you are visiting?
I am aware of most/many states having this for residents, but personally know of none that extend it to non-residents.
Could you please list the states that have allowed this? I am sure lots of folks here would love that information.

RE: What does a CG restriction called 'no rain ditching' mean?

Too funny! It never had anything to do with RV's, or utility lines, it's ditching around tents!
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!
What a way to spend time waiting for it to get cool enough to go to the lake swimming!
